Thinking Dice Pack of 30

Thinking Dice are a fun way of improving children's thinking skills and they can easily adapt for a wide age range. The teaching resources set includes six large, measuring 5cm x 5cm x 5cm colour coded foam dice which use different types of thinking to encourage children to engage in higher order thinking and questioning. These are:

Remembering and recalling information,
Understanding ideas and concepts,
Applying information in order to explore and understand relationships,
Evaluating situations and creativity.

It is very easy to fall into the trap of teaching children to use who, what, where, when, how and why and feel that we have done our duty in teaching them to use questions to develop their thinking skills. A bright Year 2 child will quickly point out that ‘can’ is a question word and the flood gates will open; would, do, could and so on are all questioning words. We need a structure if we are to understand the different types of questions and the thinking they promote. The use of Thinking Dice meets this need, starting with remembering questions and moving towards the higher order questions concerned with evaluating and creating.
