Renewable Energy Fuel Cell Science Bundle 1
Renewable Energy Fuel Cell Science Bundle 1
New upgraded teaching resource for 2012 available now. Demonstrate how renewable energy hydrogen fuel cells work with this front of class demonstration unit. Then follow through with 30 science experiments and worksheets
The pack is designed to follow the STEM cross curricular activities in science, engineering and maths. Motivate your students by getting them to practice experiments in stored energy transfer
The experiments are best conducted in groups of three to four students. See more information below for details of the kit
A fuel cell converts the chemical energy arising from the reaction between hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (o2) directly into electrical energy, water and heat.
Consisting of an anode and a cathode separated by an electrolyte the proton exchange membrane (PEM)is used as the electrolyte. The anode is supplied with hydrogen and the cathode is supplied with oxygen. At the anode the hydrogen molecules are split in electrons and protons.
When the anode and cathode are electrically connected, the protons move through the electrolyte (PEM) to the cathode. The electrons run via an external electrical connection to the cathode to drive an electrical load. At the cathode the protons and electrons recombine to form water with the supplied oxygen.
