A great front of class teaching resource showing the dangers from smoking. The sturdy framed BodyBoard comes complete with 36 different picture magnets and 32 text descriptions (see the more information button below) Each child in the class can be given a picture to work individually or in groups in a learning game to match the text descriptions and discuss key issues relating to the dangers of smoking. The board can then be fixed as a display while lessons continue in regard smoking.

A full lesson plan and A3 pop lock folder is included with each pack.

Optional extras available: Carry Case and Telescopic easel.

  • Lighter – To be used generally within the discussion though ‘fires’ from lighters/matches can be discussed in conjunction with the fire picture.

  • Cig Packet - To be used generally within the discussion possibly in regard the cost of smoking or about how people leave cigarette packets out sometimes… temptation?
  • Blocked Artery – Can be used to indicate how carbon monoxide from smoking can make arteries sticky, and more likely to have plague build up.
  • Thumb and Index Finger Yellowed – A way that hits at peoples ‘vanity’ and not looking ‘dirty’.
  • Wrinkled Skin – Again looks at the vanity of people and how we all work to look our best.
  • Osteoporosis - This can affect many people in older age and even more so those who smoke. A good way to focus on sports/exercise and away from smoking.
  • Stomach Ulcer – This can show that not all tar ends up in the lungs, but can travel down to the stomach and do damage.
  • 4,000 Chemical Scene – A well known way of showing hoe ‘cigarettes’ are a ‘man made’ product derived from plants, but with so many other added chemicals to keep smokers smoking.
  • £20, + £10 notes – A great way to get people to see the benefit of not smoking to their own pockets.
  • Peer Pressure Scene – We are all pressured by many people, adverts etc in our lives. This peer pressure scene helps to focus in on the challenge we could face from friends trying to get us to smoke.
  • Addiction Scene – Addiction is a difficult concept to get over, but this picture allows young people to see they would be so much better off, not being ‘addicted to any substance ‘ (in this case smoking).
  • Deforestation Scene – Smoking contributes to great swathes of land being destroyed each year for tobacco farming. This picture helps people to see their non-smoking benefits the world we live in.
  • Litter Scene – Study’s have shown that almost 50% of all city street litter is derived from cigarettes and paraphernalia. Again by not smoking young people feel they are helping their environment.
  • Fires From Discarded Smoking Materials/Cigs – Many fires have been accidentally set via smoking. This picture reinforces the fact and helps allow discussion about the threat smoking can pose on households etc.
  • Bad Breath Person – Smoking Stinks – An easy one, but a great picture to again get over the message that non-smoking will allow a person to feel ‘cleaner’.
  • Eyes – Blind Scenario – Many people do not know that Macular Degeneration can be caused through smoking.
  • Horrid Teeth Image – As with many of the other pictures this gives an ‘eggghhrrr’ reaction… good to get a reaction and from their a discussion.
  • Coin Toss – 50/50 Chance of Death – This is a picture that can be used where suited. Many people really don’t know the dangers from smoking, but those who become a lifelong smoker have a 50/50 chance of dying from the weed.
  • Liver Cancer – Smoking effects many organs in the body.
  • Reproductive System/Uterine Cancer – Smoking effects many organs in the body.
  • Impotent Cigarette – This can be used with adults/older secondary school pupils.

  • Quitting Scene – Showing how to get help – A great many people do give up smoking and this picture allows the class to see it is possible and the teacher can explain where help is available.

  • Smoking and Damage to Foetus/Newborns – Generally used with secondary school pupils.
  • Secondhand Smoke – Secondhand smoke in cars and at homes is still an issue that is being tackled by health professionals. For that reason we felt it important to add into the pack.
