Model Water Turbine With Dynamo
Model Water Turbine With Dynamo
Bench top teaching resource to show the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy.
The turbine has a transparent cover, inlet and outlet tubes to allow it to be coupled to a water supply - such as the sink cold tap. The hydro electric turbine is directly connected to a dynamo and LED to show electricity is produced when the turbine turns. The kit is mounted to a sturdy plastic base.

Operation: If the LED is to be used, check that it is correctly polarised. The arrow in the symbol printed onthe LED holder should point towards the black socket.
Position the turbine so that the large drain hose leads into a sink and where any leaks will not present a hazard. The drain hose must be positioned so that it provides effective drainage from the bottom of the turbine. It must not be raised so that water accumulates in the turbine. Connect the feed hose to a tap and check that all pipe connections are secure.
Open the tap and increase the pressure until the turbine starts. It is normal for an occasional drop of water to escape from the region of the bearing during operation. Once the turbine reaches sufficient speed, the colour wheel will spin and the LED will light. Bear in mind that the LED will not illuminate until its forward voltage has been reached and it will not illuminate at all if it is reverse polarised.
Drain the turbine as well as possible after use.
