The ten sections covered by the Skills Selector:

Passing & Receiving - Practices involving passing and control. Accuracy of short and long passing, movement into space, receiving aerial balls and decision making are covered. Individuals and group practices are used in grids.

Running & Movement - Includes practices to develop running with the ball and movement into space when not in possession. Individual, group practices and small sided games are used.

Dribbling & Turning - Grids are used to concentrate on the individual skill of dribbling with the ball. Maintaining close control, changing direction, the ability to feint and dummy and decision making about when to release the ball are all covered.

Heading - Beginning with basic heading technique, practices involving individuals and groups in grids are used to cover defensive heading, the flick on, the knock down and attacking heading to score.

Shooting - Practices to develop the basic technique for shooting. First-time shooting, decision making about when to shoot or pass, awareness of shooting opportunities from rebounds, creating space to shoot, long range shooting and free kicks are all covered here.

Goalkeeping - Includes practice involving saving and distribution in several different situations. Reactions, agility, handling, narrowing the angle, recovery after a save, diving saves, diving at feet, communication and dealing with crosses are all covered. Groups in grids and small sided games are used to develop this individual skill.

Defending - Practices to develop all aspects involved in defending. Groups in grids and small sided games are used to cover the block tackle, recovery tackle, delaying, jockeying, and clearing crosses.

Creating Space - Practices are included to develop the ability to create and utilise space. Movement off the ball, passing accuracy, drawing the defender, wall passes and overlaps are all covered in this section.

Crossing & Finishing - Includes practices in grids using groups and small sided games to develop crossing and finishing skills. Long passing, crossing a moving ball, meeting and re-directing crosses to score, volleying to score and the near post flick-on are all covered.

Fun & Games - Conditioned games are that are designed to develop the basic skills of the game, with the emphasis being placed on fun. Exercise derived from tennis, cricket and rounders are included to achieve this.

The ten sections covered by the Skills Selector:

Passing: - Practices cover chest, bounce, overhead, javelin and flip passes. Fakes, movement and speed passing are included, together with practices for running the clock. Passing in offence is an important element: Practices for full court and in and around the key are included, together with modified games.

Dribbling: - Practices involve shuttles, pressure dribbling and control in a variety of situations. Dribbling with left and right hand is reinforced, together with practices for driving at the basket. Practices for dribbling in offence are include as are games and activities for the application of essential dribbling skills.

Rebounding: - Practices for defence and offence are included, together with drills to develop tipping, checking and block out skills. Activities to develop rebounding from free throws are illustrated, as well as team drills and other competitive practices.

Shooting: - Practices cover set, jump, hook and lay-up shots. Shooting with left and right hand is reinforced, together with practices for driving at the basket. Shooting in the context of screens, fakes, pivots and cuts are included. Practices are developed through unopposed and opposed situations.

Ball handling : - Practices for ball control, including passing and receiving, defending the ball, and close control are included. Control in the context of screens, picks and posts are included. Practices are developed through unopposed and opposed situations.

Transition: - Practices for transition include defence to offence, offence to defence, using the lanes, fast breaks and drives. Also included are drills and activities for developing attack, and breaking following a steal.

Individual Skills : - A variety of practices include one on one, pivots and turns, screens, drives, cuts and fades, and guarding. Additionally practices are combined to reinforce the key skills of footwork and handling and include dribbling, passing and receiving and shooting; progression is encouraged through unopposed and opposed situations.

Offensive Movement : - A range of offensive movement practices are covered, including give and go, screens, pivots, cuts and posts. Practices, which are both opposed and unopposed, also include movement against both one-on-one and zone defence.

Defence: - Practices cover individual defence, over-guarding, defending screens, and defending numbers down. Practices for defending one-on-one and in different zone formations are included. Additionally, practices for defending with a team-mates (e.g. in twos or threes), and for recovering when an attack breaks down, are also included.

Fun and Games : - Practices, fun activities and modified or conditioned games are included which reinforce the key skills covered elsewhere on the CD-ROM. The activities in this section can be adapted to suit all age and ability levels.
