Here's a great way to use this mat, taken from 50 Sparkling Ideas - Using Active World Mats for Speaking and Listening (SD07361) Sound Match (Phonemes) A sparkling idea for: finding words with particular initial sounds You will need: * Active World Mat * Letter tiles / cards How to play: Players take turns to pick a letter out of the pile and work out the sound that goes with that letter, e.g. 'g' - 'ger'. They then find a picture on the mat starting with that sound. The group can help as necessary. Variation: To make it harder you could ask the child to find a picture with the same last sound as the card/letter tile, e.g. 't' in 'bucket'.
