Clever Clues (Semantics)

A sparkling idea for describing and recognising clues about vocabulary. You will need: * Active World Mat * 5 counters for each player in different colours

How to play:

The adult says, "I'm going to give you clues about one of the pictures on the mat. Listen and guess which one I am talking about." Clues given could be about:

Function: what you do with it or what it does, e.g. "You post letters here" (Post Office on the Town mat).

Attribute: what it's made of, what shape it is, what colour, e.g. "It is white and furry" (polar bear on the Arctic Mat).

Place: where you find it, e.g. "It is lying across the river" (log on the Dinosaur mat).

Keep giving clues until the child guesses and then they can put their counter on the picture on the mat.
