Stick to the rules If your child is at the age where they are touchy about who goes in and out of their bedroom, get them to write a 'rules' poster to go on their bedroom door. The poster should set out polite rules about who is allowed in the bedroom, and what they have to do to get in (for example, knock twice on the door and wait for a reply). Get your child to number the rules, to separate them clearly, and to think through any exceptions (for example, what happens if there's an emergency?). If you have other children and they disagree with some of the rules, tell them they have to write a short reply rather than just disobey them! Your child can then update the rules to deal with the points their brother or sister raised. (Information from the Parents Centre)
