Australia Quietly Drops Teacher Bonus Scheme

One of those classical moments when the government PR team can bury some bad educational news affecting  Australian teaching resources.  The furore and shenanigans surrounding the election of the Australian parliament speaker allowed a PR windows to announce the axing of the problematic  teachers bonus scheme. A controversial, or highly skilled tactical move, depending  on your viewpoint.  Although the irritant cause in the pay structure,  where good teachers are paid the sames bonus as poorer performing teachers has been removed, the controversial  principle of merit pay  based on length of service is retained . more…
