Learning to Walk Educational Toys.

Product News / February 15, 2016

Educational play starts at an extraordinary young age and although parents play a critical part there is a whole lot of learning going on with the children themselves. Learning to walk toys are one such example.

The learning curve is phenomenal and any educational aid will accelerate the process. So it is good to see an educational toy that is fun to play with and also helps a child to learn to walk. We review three versions of wooden Pull Along educational toys from Bigjigs

Pull Along Cat:

Measurements: 26cms long, stands 22cms high.BB111-1

Model: BB111

The largest of the ‘Pull Along’ toys tested the Cat from Bigjigs baby and toddler range is an ideal encourage young children to get up on their feet to pull the cat along. But what makes this Cat different from a host of similar educational toys is that is it made from solid wood. This makes the Cat incredibly robust but adds weight that the child will sense when pulling the toy along adding to their confidence.

The large wheels and articulated body make it easy to manoeuvre across many different floor surfaces. We especially liked the attention to detail in allowing the body to rock slightly on the wheels giving the cat a realistic wag to the walk. And it has a spring mounting in the tail that makes it wiggle as it walks.

Using child friendly paints and varnishes means the finish to this educational toy is superb and will last several hand me downs. The wood construction makes the Cat Pull Along extremely robust and as we have said induces a weight to the toy that sets it apart from any plastic version.

Pull Along Duck :

BB110-1Measurements: 18cms long, stands 17cms high

Model: BB110

Another wooden toy from the Bigjigs baby and toddler range is the wooden duck. Rather like the Pull Along Cat it entices a small child to learn to walk. Made also from robust wood the bright colours make it a fun educational toy. As the duck is pulled along on its large wheels the wings are made to flap making a clicking noise that adds to the fun. Interestingly the ducks beak is held in place by elastic. It can be rotated to give the duck a different facial expression.

The solid construction from wood and the high quality finish in children friendly paint and lacquers make sure this educational toy is built to last and will withstand a fair degree of rough play. The body of the duck is mounted on the wheels so as to induce a duck’s waggle as it is pulled along.

Pull Along Dinosaur:

Measurements: 28cms long stands 17cm high.BB112-1

Model:BB112

Slightly longer than the duck version this robust wooden educational toy also has a flexible body, large wheels to aid manouvering and a spring in the tail to make it wiggle. The head is flexible mounted to the body with elastic. On this version the wheel axles are slightly offset so the Dinosaur bobs up and down and wobbles as it pulled along adding to the interest in the toy.

Made from wood the toy will survive all manner of onslaught from a small child. The bright green finish is in child friendly paint and lacquer. The three spines on the back of the dinosaur are fixed with elastic allowing the spines to be turned around giving the child a more tactile experience
